LHA Awarded Cultural Grant to Install Art to Celebrate Diversity

In the spring of 2022, The Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) was awarded an artistic grant from The Mass Cultural Council. Through their support, the LHA is honored to be able to work with local master ceramist, Yary Livan, who agreed to create a 4 ft. x 4 ft. flowerpot sculpture that celebrates the diversity surrounding our community. The design will represent the 1st immigrant populations that came to call LHA home. We will be unveiling his master work at the Mercier Center entrance garden this coming fall.

Yary Livan has a legacy of dedication to his craft and his community of Lowell Massachusetts. Livan is one of perhaps only three Cambodian master ceramists to have survived the 1975 Khmer Rouge genocide and the only one known to be living in the U.S., where he shares his artistic knowledge with the next generation through classes and apprenticeships. https://westernavenuestudios.com/listing/yary-livan/
